Cornell Park

Cornell Park is located in the historical hamlet of New Baltimore. The park offers a great river view of the Hudson. It's a wonderful place to visit anytime of the year.

In the Winter you can watch and hear the ice crack as great barges break through the ice. Each Spring, fisherman come in hordes to fish for Stripped Bass right from the park. In Summer it's a fun place to hang out and watch the boats go by and to launch your own canoe or kayak. And Cornell Park is especially beautiful in the Fall when the leaves begin to turn.

Conservancy events at the park include:

Wine and Cheese Party – July 15th  6:00pm

Breakfast in the Park – August 21st  9:00 - 11:30 AM

Cornell Park Project

Making improvements to Cornell Park were identified as a top priority of the Conservancy. The Conservancy worked with the town board and the Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District to obtain a Greenway Grant to make improvements to at the park. The main element of this project is to improve the shoreline to make it safer and more attractive and to stop the erosion that has been gradually eating away the park. Once this bank stabilization is complete improvements to landscaping and amenities along the waterfront can be completed. In the fall of 2004 local residents who often fish from the park began the project by preparing the riverfront for the heavy work and making other improvements.  In the winter of 2005 local contractor Rob VanEtten completed the shoreline stabilization by placing LARGE rocks along the river, added a culvert to improve drainage, and also placed rocks to separate parking areas from recreation areas. Spring 2005 will bring volunteer activity to grade and seed the area disturbed by heavy equipment and begin with plantings and other improvements.
